Back in Sydney, Carrasco will continue with her position on AWARD’s executive committee and her PhD in Ideas at UTS. The highly awarded Carrasco replaced Steve McKenzie in the ECD role. DDB will be backing former M&C Saatchi, Melbourne manage- ment team, creative director Steve Crawford and managing director David Brown in a start-up agency set up to handle future conflicting DDB accounts, which is slated to launch in November. Crawford has worked in advertising for more than 20 years including stints at McCann-Erickson, Clifton Court Smith and was a CD at Clemenger Melbourne prior to joining M&C Saatchi in the mid 2000s. Sydney agency Workshop hired Tony Vigna as associate CD, who will work closely with agency prin- cipal and creative director Jamie Kwong. Vigna’s arrival rekindles his partnership with Kwong, as the pair both worked at McCann-Erickson in the mid 90s. Following international expansion earlier this year with the opening of an office in Melbourne, UK found- ed agency BD Network has made a raft of key appointments, including David Ponce De Leon, their first local creative director. Ponce De Leon joins from George Patterson Y&R, Melbourne where he’s been con- sulting for the last eight months. He started his career also at Patts, and has held positions at Leap, Leo Burnett and Lifelounge. Colenso BBDO, Auckland lured Daniel Wright from Tribal DDB as digital creative director. Wright has been Tribal’s creative director since March 2008. Spirkovski, made their first signifi- cant hire since taking over from Richard Maddocks in mid-June, welcoming one of Perth’s most exciting young creative teams, Ryan Albuino and Andrew Chu. The Marketforce Perth creative team have been responsible for some of the agency’s best work in recent years. Their departure means Albuino’s fiancée, Julia Elton-Bott, will also leave the agency, although Carrasco - departed Mojo Auckland after 3 months Crawford - departed M&C Saatchi, Melbourne Sydney-based independent digital creative agency Pusher has appoint- ed Craig Bailey as creative director. Bailey’s experience includes digital creative head of US, Sydney and senior interactive art director at BMF. Bailey’s appointment follows the move by existing CD Mike Crebar to an executive CD role fol- lowing the acquisition of the Ardent Leisure Group digital account. Lowe Sydney parted ways with its executive creative director, Mike Barnwell, less than three months after bringing him in from South Africa - and elevated current digital creative head Mel Peters to the role. Peters has been at Lowe since October last year, recruited from Citrus, Melbourne. The Furnace snared top WCRS London creative Tom Spicer as joint national creative director, to part- ner Paul Fenton, effective October. After 8 years at M&C Saatchi in London and a brief stint at BBH, Spicer joined WCRS in 2007. He created the Transport for London ‘Moonwalking Bear’ spot which was viewed by an estimated 35 mil- lion people worldwide. The new ECD team at Clemenger Sydney, Paul Nagy and Michael not before their wedding towards the end of this year. Bridget Taylor returned to NZ from Singapore, along with hus- band Dean Taylor, who left the CEO role at Saatchi & Saatchi. She was a CD at BBDO/Proximity, Singapore, and resigned back in June. Taylor was previously a deputy creative director at DDB New Zealand. In a major step-up in the v Barnwell - departed ECD gig at Lowe, Sydney Vigna - to associate CD at Workshop, Sydney Spicer - to co-national CD at The Furnace The winners of the 2010 Siren Awards were announced at the awards breakfast in Melbourne in May 2010. Radio personalities Ant and Becks hosted the breakfast. Advertising agency, Clemenger BBDO Melbourne won the 2010 Gold Siren award for best radio ad of the year – the third time the agency has won the top gong in the six years of the Awards. The Gold Siren Award winners scored a trip for two to Cannes to attend the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in June 2010. The Siren winners and finalists were selected from over 500 entries. The Siren Awards are presented by Commercial Radio Australia. Visit www.sirenawards.com.au to see photos from the day. At the end of each round of the Siren Awards, a winner is selected from each category, and then an overall winner is awarded from the creative categories. The overall winner is given the opportunity to judge the creative category of the following round, and the craft winner is awarded the opportunity to judge the craft category in the following round. All winners and highly commended entries progress to the finals of the Siren Awards where a panel of expert judges nominate the Silver winner in each category, and decide upon the yearly Gold Siren Award winner. The awards program started in 2005 and aims to promote and reward the radio commercials which stand out from the crowd. When faced with a radio brief, a creative has the opportunity to make an ad which both cuts through and attracts notice, as well as using creativity to engage the listener and draw them in.
