They are all extremely talented and I can see such a great t rajectory in the collaborative way they work.” Since jo ining the team, C harlton ha s assi ste d t hei r move to the home ly gr andeu r of the new premise s as we ll as secur ing high end in ternational TVCs, bri nging MTV’s fast turn over production to the table and adding to the elite cal- ibre of engineers and composers. Inte rnat ional ly award ed, ex- AFTRS s ound d esign er Br endan Woithe is one such add iti on. “I rea lly wante d t o wo rk wit h Michael Lira (in back), Jono Ma, David McCormack and Matteo Zingales Supersonic as I felt they have a cool diversity, family vibe and push t he boundaries of contemporary audio - and they’d also just moved in down from Toby’s coffee shop on Macleay Street!”. Paul Healy, fresh from writing for the Zhejiang Acrobatics Troupe in China, believes the team brings new ideas to the a dvertising industry by staying creatively connected to the outside world. Tel evi sion c omposer M att eo Zing ales, who has bee n wit h the team through the old and the new, also believes the change is a gr eat step for the professional de livery that Supersonic projects require: “It is a very relaxed atmosphere which means I can easily sink into fe eling the emotional needs of my compo- sitions for drama.” Matteo should know what works, his unique filmic approach to the musi cal s cor e for hi gh r at ing Network Seven’s s eries ‘All Saints’ will now be heard across the shores having just been sold to the BBC. Says McCormack: “The new stu- dio set-up has three modes, literally in levels and metaphorically in vibe. Downstairs is the engine room, full of eccentric old e lectronic instru- ments, vintage guitars, pianos and overflowing ashtrays. Down here, the normal rules of society do not appl y. Al l var iet y of ideas ar e thrown ar ound, pi ck ed u p an d moulded into new creations. The second l evel is where most of the socialising occurs. Upstairs is the bridge, keeping everything under control and beaming out music to the world and beyond.” Recent collaborat ions in TVC include classical scores for director Wayne Maule ’s Lexus spots in Japan (The Thermal Corporation), Cate Shortland’s spot for Australian Rugby Union (the Brandshop) and Resolution Desig n’s Pepsi Max spots (Clemenger BBDO Sydney). Director/Composer Antony Partos finds the challenge of changing mediums exhilarating: “As a com- poser working in Australia I have the rare privilege of being given the opportunity to compose for a vari- ety of media. It’s been a real treat to step off a plane from recording an orchestral feature film score in the Netherlands to working with the likes of Lusciou s Internat ion al di re cto r Richar d Gib son on an international Sony spot.” Supersonic are now at 99 Victoria St reet , P ot ts P oint an d have a brand new show reel.
